Hello, my name is Melissa Serna, mother of 5 beautiful children and loving wife to Marcus Serna. I'm reaching out to raise funds for our family. I plan on withdrawing the funds raised by the first week of October to help with some of the costs of rebuilding.
As most of you know, thousands of families have lost their homes, their vehicles, and most (if not ALL) of their belongings due to Hurricane Harvey. During this massive devastation, my family has taken a loss. We lost the entire first floor of our home and all of our vehicles. Unfortunately, because we didn't live in a "flood zone", we didn't carry flood insurance.
During the storm, we evacuated to a dear friends house. We were boated out of our home to theirs just to find that a few hours later, the family that took us in started taking flood waters into their home. Again, we ended up getting boated from their home to safety.
Fortunately, we were able to stay with our sons friends family. However, because we had no means of transportation, we were forced to move (for a 3rd time) to a friends house only to be closer to our home.
We are now staying in our very own neighborhood with friends whom we consider family. Jason and Melinda Suchecki and their 2 children are one of very few families who were blessed to not get ANY water into their home.
If you know our family, then you know that we have recently survived much worst...the loss of child (Camilla Rose). So I know we will survive this. ❤️
Howevever, we aren't ones who will ask for help given most circumstances. We are usually the ones reaching out and helping others & it breaks our hearts knowing that we can't even extend a helping hand to those in need right now.
I haven't told too many people but I was recently laid off. We have been trying to stretch our dollars to hold us over until I could find another job. I was taking advantage of this "time off" and was studying to get licensed as a Mortgage Loan Officer. My State test was scheduled for Monday, Aug. 28th and hoped to pass it and start working immediately after. However, everything changed due to Harvey.
So here I am...I come to you so humbly to ask if you would so kindly donate whatever you can to help with the cost of living and to help us rebuild what we have lost. All funds will be used for furniture, appliances, etc.
Even if you can't donate, we ask that you please keep us in your prayers as I know this will be a long road to recovery.
