Two Birds One Stone

I'm raising money to help out Lawrence Peters, but not just Lawrence! Your donation will benefit Lawrence and support him as my temporary caretaker during a tough November/December.

As many of you know, Lawrence is a long-time bartender at The Hideout and the host of LP's Happy Hour on Friday nights at the bar. He's also the leader of The Lawrence Peters Outfit, beloved Chicago purveyors of Un-Ruined Country music. With The Hideout closing until 2023, Lawrence has been thrown out of work and has immediate financial needs.

As you may or may not know, I am Lawrence's longtime collaborator (on Emmet Otter's Jugband Xmas and on solo records). I shattered my kneecap in an accident in October. I have been on bedrest while my knee heals. I cannot drive or leave my second floor. I may be facing another six weeks of restrictions as my bone grows. My family and a vast army of friends have been picking up the slack, but I need some extra help.

This fundraiser is set up to fund Lawrence directly. But, in a roundabout way, you're helping me out as well as I 'hire' him with these funds to help with driving tasks, runs to the pharmacy, and general help getting non- or semi-ambulatory knee patient where I need to go during the long recovery.

Any money that goes over and above the hours Lawrence helps us out stays with him as a donation while he figures out the next steps. We've built a wonderful community based on care and support, looking after our own, keeping connected, and protecting the dignity of work and the fragility of vulnerable folks. This is a direct way you can help two households face a difficult winter with grace and mutual care.
