Exeter International Summer School

This summer I have the opportunity to study global enterprise at the University of Exeter in the UK. I currently attend Bryn Mawr College where I study Sociology. This program is a rare opportunity for me to focus on the socioeconomic mobility of minorities in the context of global enterprise. I want to learn how the present and future state of the global market will impact the economic mobility of minority businesses in America. I also want to study how access (or lack of access) to entry in the global market can impact the political agency of historically oppressed peoples around the world.

I will explore questions like, "As multinational companies expand, will the economic health of underdeveloped countries improve or decline?" My idea is simply that underdeveloped countries tend to have a wealth of natural resources which are monopolized by companies that have no roots in those countries. This, in combination with a lack of capital, makes it difficult for small businesses to start or compete. How much of an impact does this have on the economic health and development of those countries.

I am working diligently to save money for this trip, but the cost of the program and airfare are far more than I can afford alone.
