757 Housing Rescue for BIPOC
EVICTION EMERGENCY FUND
Due to the pandemic and widespread unemployment Hampton Roads renters - especially Black and Hispanic families - are being pushed out of their homes. Funds will directly be provided to tenants who are in emergency eviction situations amid the continued court hearings in Virginia.
Funds will be distributed to all community members in need with a focus on marginalized voices.
Money donated will be disbursed with intent to be used for:
-Rent
-Security Deposit
-Utilities
Other items will be provided for with donations:
-Clothing, Furniture, Hygiene Supplies
CURRENTLY, we are working with a Virginia Beach mother who was evicted and is fighting with her landlord to stay in her home.
C.* is a long-time VB resident and single mother of 2 young children. She lost her job due to the pandemic. Despite being an excellent tenant and making all her rent payments, she has struggled these last few months to pay her rent. Her landlord is forcing her out this month unless she can catch up. We seek to raise funds to quickly help keep this family in their home.
In addition to this family this fund will be used as a broader community support fund.
Court filings for evictions continued in October, despite the CDC moratorium, and will continue throughout the winter.
We can't & we won’t continue to let this happen.
Please share the Gofundme & lets keep this family housed!!! ✊
-Organized by Tidewater Tenants Rights (a project of Tidewater Democratic Socialists), in solidarity with other organizations of Tidewater Solidarity Collective, Workers Union, & CoronaAid757!
