You posted a new update message:First of all, thank you SO very much! As difficult as all of this has been, we've been blessed beyond belief by all of your prayer and support. You all have been an amazing example of Christ's hands and feet! Thank you also to Joey Manzi, who created this page. We wanted to keep everyone updated and give you a summary of all that has happened with Joel recently.

In February Joel went to London on vacation to visit friends. Late Friday night on February 21st after a visit to Big Ben, he was in a serious car accident. Joel had to be helicoptered to the hospital and suffered injuries to the head and abdomen that caused internal bleeding. His family got the call Saturday morning and was on flights to London that afternoon. The prayer requests were sent out and by the time Joel's family arrived he had been taken off the respirator. He was hospitalized in London for a full week, and each day we saw answered prayer before our eyes. He progressed from being in an induced coma with tubes everywhere to being coherent and having conversation without any tubes or IVs at all. Remarkably, we were told that his injuries were not severe enough to require surgery. He was discharged from the London hospital and spent another week recovering at a friend's parent's home before being able to fly home.

On March 9th Joel arrived back home to Chattanooga. Though, shortly after his arrival he began to suffer severe stomach cramping. This continued for a couple days so he went into the ER on Wednesday March 12th. A CAT scan revealed a disturbing amount of fluids still in his abdomen so after no improvement the doctors decided to operate on Friday. It turned out to be a six-hour surgery because the doctors said that when they opened him opened him up, "He was a big mess." Because the surgery was not performed until 20 days after the accident, the open wound became infected. Joel spent a full week in the hospital and was sent home on March 21st where he continued to recover. About a week later there were some complications with his wound so it was back to the hospital on March 29th. The infection had cleared up, but there was an abscess that needed to be taken care of. That has also cleared up now, so Joel is just waiting to hear about the possibility of a wound vacuum, something that might help speed up the healing process, before he is sent home again.

Your donations will go towards helping pay insurance deductibles, medical costs and the amounts charged for flights, travel costs, etc. for his family in while in London. Joel and his family are all SO grateful to each and every one of you for all of your support. Your prayer is evident so we very much appreciate the continued prayer on his behalf. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for your kindness and generosity!
