75 Barrhaven Squadron (Cadets)

The Royal Canadian Air Cadets is a Canadian national youth program sponsored partially by the Canadian Armed Forces and the civilian Air Cadet League of Canada for youths between the ages of 12 and 18. The average cadet squadron size is about 50 cadets. The program provides many sorts of activities, life skills and chances for young teens to experience social interactions on many different levels. It is an opportunity to expand horizons, contribute to the community and make friends for life. It promotes leadership, physical fitness, citizenship, teamwork, an interest in the aviation industry, and self-confidence.

The air cadet program is offered to youths free of charge. For this reason, it is a welcome haven for many families who cannot afford to enroll their child/children in other programs, and an attractive option for many families looking to involve their teenagers in extra-curricular activities. Community support for cadet units is based on civilian sponsoring committees and support from civilian companies such as yourselves.

In its inaugural year, our squadron has grown from our early estimate of 45 cadets to our current enrollment of ~180 cadets. We are currently one of the largest units in the Ottawa Area. As a newly formed squadron we are constantly in search of community support through in-kind or financial donations.

Contributions are requested to pay for the rental of the cadet training facility, computers, office supplies and training aids, as well as bus transportation for activities (two bush weekends and year end trip). The squadron plans to also offer a diverse extra-curricular program, to include activities like marksmanship, biathlon, sports, band, model aircraft club, drill, and ground school programs.

The return from your investment in our new cadet squadron will be borne out through cadet interest in the aviation field, your presence on our website and various social media accounts and throughout the training year as cadets participate in classes and weekend activities. Cadets will also dedicate themselves to various fundraising efforts, annual poppy drives, volunteering with homeless shelters, cleaning up parks and historical sites, and growing as responsible citizens.
