“Tails” of the Forgotten ❤️
I am putting this page together for my family, The Therrien’s and their beloved dogs.
Before I get into some much heart breaking detail of what my sisters family has been through this past couple months, I need to say this will be pulling on mine and all heart strings. The love for an animal is like no other but the love for a dog that will always love you back is unbreakable. Their 3 dogs Yoschi Zeke and Charlie have showed me and my family so much love and affection. I can’t thank this family enough for letting me be apart of all these pups lives. I’ve known Zeke and Charlie since there were just babies so this is very close to my heart. To have known and met Big Yosch for the short amount of time we still built a strong bond that I will cherish.
Now to tell you the reason why I made this Go fund me page please read below.
The Therrien family has recently been devastated by the loss of their retired Police K9 Yoschi.
K9 Yoschi was a beloved Police K9 active from 2016 to 2021. Yoschi was the fan favorite of the many special events and fundraisers he attended. K9 Yoschi was a fierce protector for his community, loyal companion and partner to Officer Keith Therrien. K9 Yoschi was deployed numerous times to assist his community to track missing children and adults, locate and apprehend dangerous criminals, and located a measurable number of illegal narcotics. In Late October K9 Yoschi suffered a medical emergency. His Handler immediately recognized the danger that Yoschi was facing and took him to an emergency Vet for surgery. After several hours of Surgery Officer Therrien learned that Yoschi suffered major trauma. Five days after Surgery, Yoschi took a turn for the worst. He was again rushed to the hospital where Officer Therrien had to make the hardest decision of his life. Yoschi was laid to rest on 11/3/2021 with his family by his side. The Therrien’s were devastated from the loss. Because K9 Yoschi was retired in March of 2021, all the bills for Yoschi’s surgery rested purely on Officer Therrien and his family.
That’s only the beginning. Their two-family pets Zeke and Charlie are also having a “ruff” go.
Charlie is a 3-year-old tri-colored Pembroke Welch Corgi. Charlie was brought into the Therrien’s lives at 8 weeks old. Charlie and Yoschi had a very close bond. Charlie and Yoschi could often been seen chasing each other around the yard and house. Those two were inseparable. After K9 Yoschi past, Charlie started behaving oddly. Charlie stopped eating, was lethargic, and seemed depressed. Charlie was taken to an emergency pet hospital. After numerous tests, the Vet couldn’t find a cause for Charlie’s behavior. The Therrien’s thought it may have been a broken heart from losing Yoschi. After returning to somewhat normal for a few weeks, Charlie again started behaving oddly, with many of the same symptoms. Again, Charlie was taken to the pet emergency hospital. The Therrien family received terrible news. Charlie has Lymphoma. AT THREE YEARS OLD! The closest appointment for Charlie to see an oncologist is at the end of December where the Therrien’s will begin their journey to get Charlie better.
Zeke is a 9-year-old Pembroke Welch Corgi. Zeke is the biggest dog you’ll ever meet; he just has tiny legs! Zeke is the most loyal and soft-hearted dog you could ever imagine. Zeke has a big heart and an even bigger personality. At Eight years old, The Therrien’s noticed that Zeke would sometimes get bloody nails after walks. Officer Therrien, being an experienced K9 handler, knew something was going on. Zeke was taken to a specialist and given a DNA test. At the conclusion of the DNA test, The Therrien’s learned that Zeke had Degenerative Myelopathy. After hours and hours of research, the Therrien’s knew at some point another difficult decision will have to be made in regards for the quality of life for Zeke. Zeke has been living with Degenerative Myelopathy for about a year and a half and the family knows that Zeke is nearing the end of his journey.
The Therrien’s have racked up just over $26k in vet bills in the last six weeks and are expecting Charlie’s chemo treatment to cost thousands more. If you can help, even just a little bit, the Therrien’s would be extremely grateful.
The Therrien’s understand that it is a difficult time for everyone, however, if you cannot donate, please share the post!!
Additionally, if the Therrien’s are gifted with funds that exceed their vet bills, they will be donating the extra funds to the Ventura Police K-9 Police Department.
