Americas Unite is a US-based 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization formed in 2020 to provide food assistance and other social services to vulnerable populations.

Through this campaign Americas Unite is funding Manos Amigues (gender neutral Spanish for Helping Hands), a food assistance and social services program run by and for members of the LGBT+ community in Mexico City. With the help from donations by people in the U.S., Manos Amigues was launched in July 2021 to great fanfare and currently has two principal initiatives:

 1) the first-ever LGBT+ soup kitchen in Mexico, which currently serves over 200 hot meals daily,  Monday through Friday, to people in need in Mexico City; and

 2) a queer cultural center equipped with a stage, stage lighting and full sound system where a variety of live music, theater, poetry, dance, DJ’s, workshops, classes and film screenings are presented throughout the week. The space also features an art gallery where we showcase a different artist each month with the goal of getting queer artists more exposure and bringing people together in an atmosphere of community and creativity.

Our goal is to continue growing and become the first-ever LGBT+ Community Center in Mexico City, a city of 25 million which still lacks this basic infrastructure.

Members of the LGBT+ community in Mexico City face discrimination in nearly every facet of their lives: the family, the church, police, employers, schools and healthcare providers, among others. The COVID-19 crisis has only compounded these obstacles. Although Mexico City is the largest city in the Western Hemisphere, it lacks the basic infrastructure necessary for members of the LGBT+ community to live healthy lives in an environment of dignity and respect.

Although our programs are run primarily by and for members of the LGBT+ community, our services are available to everyone regardless of sexual or gender identity.

Your donations will help us fight the extreme poverty in Mexico City that has only worsened during the COVID-19 pandemic.

No donation is too small or too large and we thank you in advance for your generosity. Click on the links below for press coverage of our work:
