Hi! My name is Emily Head and I am a junior at Western Boone Jr./Sr. High School. I am currently in 3rd year honors Spanish and it is truly my passion. My plans for the future are to go to college, major in education and become a Spanish teacher.
I am currently in the process of going through the IUHPFL (Indiana University Honors Program in Foreign Languages) and am awaiting my results from my interview. I began this process in late September/ early October and have come so far since then. All I have to do now is study and work my butt off to get the funds I need!
What I will get out of this experience will be priceless and truly life changing. I will go for seven weeks and return home nearly fluent. I will also grow personally from those couple of months away from home and the comfort of my native language. This program will completely immerse me into an entirely different culture, but one that I love already, and give me an opportunity to truly live in Spain and learn the culture and language in a first-hand, hands-on experience.
While I am there I will not speak a word of English, which, despite how crazy and difficult it sounds, I am very excited about. I will live with a host family, but I won't know what they are until later in the process. I will be taking classes there, just like at my school, but it will all be in Spanish. I am also very excited about overnight excursions I will get to experience with all other travelers in my area. The events and activities are still undetermined, but will be unforgettable and life changing! I also get the luxury of experiencing all of this with other kids my age in the program.
My first payment of $1,500 is due on March 31st, followed by $1,950 due April 14th, $1,003 due April 29th, $1,950 due May 12th and a few hundred dollars for personal expenses and meals for overnight excursions. I have so much support from family and friends, but raising all of the money in a short amount of time is very difficult.
