Hello friends, colleagues, and LGBTQ allies,
I am participating in the GayGames this coming August in Cleveland as member of and advocate for the LGBTQ community of the USA. Cleveland is also home to the LGBT Community Center of Cleveland that advocates and assists in countless ways yet could utilize more funding for important services.
As you may know LGBTQ persons are riding a wave of victories in attaining equal status in our country such as marriage equality and equal protection clauses. There are serious struggles as well including practices in: our communities (recent suspected hate crimes in the Cleveland area), country as a whole (Arizona legislature's recent passage of the "Turn the Gays Away" bill and bullying of LGBTQ youth are prime examples) and across the world (Uganda criminalizing loving actions of LGBTQ persons). This is the time for more advocacy and services for the LGBTQ community of which the LGBT Center of Cleveland provides for. The Gay Games is a wonderful example of pride, tolerance and equality for our communities to participate in and shows how athletics and cultural exchanges can bring us together.
I am raising money to participate in the Gay Games first and foremost because I am a staunch advocate and member of the LGBTQ community. In my practice as a mental health counselor, educator and researcher I advocate for affirming stances and social justice for persons of all intersecting diverse identities. Growing up I did not always feel comfortable in some of the communities I lived in because of the anti-gay rhetoric, violence and discrimination before my eyes. We cannot allow our children to feel the same!
I am hoping you will give to our cause! We have met the goals for fees for the Games so now ALL DONATIONS GO DIRECTLY TO the LGBT Community Center of Greater Cleveland Thus I will be able to spread our message of love and equality through several events at the Games and bring affirming mental health advocacy to the forefront as well!
My goal is to donate all funds received to the LGBT Community Center of Greater Cleveland for their advocacy and service programs which including affirming support groups. With our initial push we covered more than enough for the events.
