Dear Family and Friends of John Chapman and those filled with hope.
On Saturday, February, 15th at 10:30pm, John Chapman, Sr., was riding his bike when struck by a car on 41st & Tower Rd. in Denver, Colorado. The impact of this accident caused near fatal injuries. The details of the injuries filter in slowly as the doctors continue to evaluate, restore and repair. We have learned that he was riding south on Tower Rd. when struck head-on by a vehicle traveling north. Thankfully, 911 was called and the paramedics were able to rush him to the hospital. John has been in an induced coma since arriving at Denver Health and the family has been holding vigil at the hospital since then.
We were told that his entire face was "pulverized" and with each day, other injuries surface. Every bone in his face was broken (eye sockets, brow, nose, chin, etc.). The impact split his face from the right forehead down thru the right eye, nose, upper lip, palate, lower lip, to chin. His left humerus bone was broken in two places, his neck is sprained, his foot/ankle is sprained. They placed a bolt in his head to reduce the swelling and they are working endlessly to find the cause of his fever which has been holding at 104. So far he has undergone 7 separate operations on his face and arm alone. As they complete one surgery, they determine others are needed.
John is a loving, single dad with 3 children, the youngest is 17. The expenses that lie ahead are daunting as John is not working and not receiving pay. We have started this request to raise money to support the medical expenses, deductibles and current household needs.
