Support my Breast Cancer Awareness Event

Hi, my name is Lisa Cattermole Watkins, and I was diagnosed with breast cancer in May 2023, specifically HER2-positive. I consider myself So Lucky to have received immediate care through the incredible medical system in Portugal. My oncologist team in hospitals in the Algarve and Lisbon, along with my very supportive family and friends, helped me navigate what can be a very scary journey for some.

Recently, I connected with a remarkable organization called Associação Partilhas e Cuidados #associacaopartilhas, founded by the remarkable Sandra Matinhos. Sandra is not only a dedicated advocate for cancer patients but also a survivor herself. She overcame cancer 16 years ago after a number of gruelling surgeries, at a time when the disease was not as openly discussed. Back then, a cancer diagnosis in Portugal often felt like a death sentence, and many sufferers, including Sandra, experienced feelings of isolation, especially those who had undergone a mastectomy or hair loss.

Sandra’s personal journey resonates deeply with me. She faced the fears and judgments of society, especially when she lost her hair. Her story is a testament to her resilience, and work with #associacaopartilhas, which aims to change the narrative for cancer patients today.

The organization brings a fresh approach to cancer support, collaborating with other associations to create a unified force that maximizes resources and support for patients and their families. Together, we can help ensure that no one feels alone in their battle against cancer.

I am raising funds to support the ongoing work of Associação Partilhas e Cuidados, which provides crucial services by volunteers like accompanying patients to Chemo’ or pre-surgery appointments and head shaving ceremonies and a sense of community at their dedicated Centre, to those affected by cancer.
