Mason is 7 years old and is such a kind and loving kid. He has the type of personality that draws others in and makes everyone feel welcome. He loves his family, sports and playing with friends.
He was born in 2010 with a handful of congenital heart defects causing him to have the diagnosis of Hypoplastic Left Heart Syndrome. He had 3 open heart surgeries before he was 1 year old. When he was 2 and preparing for his 4th surgery, his parents found out about a new surgery in Boston where they would be able to grow back the left side of his heart. His parents knew this was something they wanted to try for Mason! He was a candidate and headed to Boston for his biggest open heart surgery.
The doctors decided that to help him get the best results, they would need to do it in two stages. He had the first stage done in June of 2013. In January of 2014 Mason had the 2nd stage to make his half of a heart whole! At that time he was only 1 of 13 people whose hearts had been converted with the Biventricular Repair.
Since then there have been some areas of his heart that the doctors have been watching, and recently his heart has started showing signs of stress. Because of this, it is time to intervene to give him the best quality of life that he is able to have. He is having his heart cath and cardiac MRI in Boston on November 6 and his open heart surgery will be November 8, in Boston.
If you know this sweet family, you know that they are incredible! And Mason is literally the sweetest kid around. The expense of traveling to Boston and undergoing open heart surgery is incredible. Mason and his parents will be in Boston for up to a month, leaving their other two children behind with family. Let's help this amazing family out!
