English Channel Swim For Charity

Donation protected
Between June 22nd and June 29th 2019, four of us will be on standby for a clear weather window to swim, as a team across the English Channel. The English Channel is recognised as one of the toughest endurance swims there is, this is for a number of reasons, the first is the cold water. Every channel swimmer has to swim as the very first man Matthew Webb did it, in just swimming trunks, no wetsuits are allowed which means swimmers have to battle temperatures between 13 and 17 degrees depending om the date you attempt the crossing. The second is that it is the busiest shipping lane in the world connecting northern european ports with the global markets. The third is the currents. The currents are strong and if timed wrongly can result in hours added to the swim, hours spent in the cold water battling currents that are holding you in a stationary position. We will be swimming in a relay meaning one person will be swimming at all times, day or night under the protection of our very experience pilot boat Masterpice, skippered by Fred Mardle. We are raising funds for two charities; The Royal Marine Association as well as Plastic Oceans. We want our children to enjoy a cleaner, healthier planet and this swim could highlight just how much rubbish is thrown into our oceans. If you’d like to contribute to this amazing cause please do so. All proceeds will go towards the entry fee for the event as well as the two amazing charities listed above.Thank you.
