Raul's Birthday Wish: Help fund the Southside Worker Center!

The Southside Worker Center was opened by Southside Presbyterian Church as one of their social justice ministries in 2006 to provide a safe place for workers to wait for employment and to negotiate a just daily wage with potential employers.

The Center sees approximately 50 men daily, who, in spite of the hostile climate created by employer sanction laws and anti-immigrant legislation such as Arizona Senate Bill 1070, continue to maintain that they too have a right to work by gathering at the Center. Along with offering a space for workers to wait for work we also focus on empowering the leadership of workers through a variety of trainings, shared decision making, and by maintaining the Center as a worker-run organization.

Currently, our programs include know your rights workshops, ESL classes, a 20 hour leadership development program, health and safety in the work place training, and a protection network that provides support for workers affected by detention or deportations.

Unfortunately, our resources are currently coming to an end which is why we are asking the community for financial support. Your support would allow us to keep providing our services, as well as to expand and create new programing.

We intend to create GED classes, offer more English classes, and create a computer skills program so workers can search for employment opportunities via internet. Other major goals are to open a tool lending library so workers have easier access to tools needed for jobs and a van to transport workers to their job sites.

We need your support to make this happen!

My birthday is coming up and all I ask is that you please donate what you can to our Center in order to further develop our programing and help keep our doors open. We would greatly appreciate it!

We thank you in advance and hope that you are available and willing to support our community.
