8Months, Please Help me Heal & Get Up in my Chair

Hello to my family and friends,

Before I begin, I'd like to send all of you my warmest salutations during this time. I hope everyone is in the best of spirits and staying healthy!

First and foremost, I'd love to give my deepest and most loving "Thank You" to each of you who supported and gave so graciously towards my last GoFund my BFF Andy Arias had created while I was in the hospital during March.

As most of you know, I have been bedridden now for 7 1/2 months healing a pressure wound. Yes, it's INSANE but I don't believe I've been in my house laying on my side for half of a year. I caught a common cold in March that landed me spending my bday week in the hospital (Don't worry, it was not Covid). I was released on St. Patrick's Day to spend the rest of my days healing at home. I hired a wonderful caretaker to stay by my bedside during the night and early afternoon to help push on my diaphragm so I could expel the phlegm from my chest and assisted with other necessities including catherization, bathing, dressing, feeding and so forth as I was healing from my cold. While I was bedridden for 3 weeks healing from the virus, I had developed a pressure wound under my tailbone. For those who don't know, Christopher Reeve (Superman) had complications with pressure wounds and that is how he passed away. I've been paralyzed for 19 years free from pressure wounds and this is my FIRST and hopefully my LAST because they are No Joke! I'm going to be quite frank, in the first two months we thought that we had the pressure wound under control and it was closing up nicely but then in the third month it took a left turn, Yes! ..It turned out that the pressure wound had been infected and wasn't healing. I swear, that very day I prayed to God asking him, "Please don't let me be taken out from a pressure wound, I can't go from a wound." That very day, trust me I buckled down and revved up the engines to make sure I was going to get rid of this thing. Of course, I went on antibiotics, added extra vitamins into my diet along with red meat and spent six and a half months laying ONLY on my right and left side of my body. (I have included photos of my pressure wound and trust me Rated G for those with woozy tummys because some of my pics show the wound down to the muscle. For those who are Bedridden or in a Wheelchair, PLEASE, PLEASE PAY ATTENTION TO YOUR BODY and take care of it so that this NEVER happens to you.) Today is the 15th day that I'm able to lay on my back, and it feels AMAZING!

Living life as a quadriplegic is not the easiest, especially if you're an individual who has a hard time asking for things...Trust me, I know and this is coming from a woman who had way too much pride before her car accident... And I still have an issue with asking for a drink of water from anyone when I'm thirsty. The one thing that I can share that I've learned on this journey, when it comes to getting support for ANOTHER person in need, that right there my friends I'll do everything in my power to move mountains! And, this is why I've Created this GoFundMe because through these 7 1/2 months I've had my wonderful and devoted caretaker by my side caring for me while I heal these long days and nights. Yes, since March 17th I asked my sweet Earth Angel if he could be by my side to help me get over my sickness and little did we know that I would develop a pressure wound. He even stated that it wasn't about the money and he was going to stick by my side until it healed.

Obviously because I have been down and unable to leave my bed, let alone my house to work I've not made any income, and I didn't collect unemployment during this time. Unfortunately, Medicare does not provide this type of nursing support that I need for these months and it has come out of my savings. I didn't know that I was going to develop a wound and that the healing process would take 8 months. The next dilemma that I'm facing at the moment, now that it's almost closed.. I'll be getting up into my wheelchair slowly day by day, but I have to do it in increments of 30 minutes to an hour and build my way back up to 10 hours being fully upright in the wheelchair. These moments are going to require someone being here with me making sure that I don't get dizzy spells (low blood pressure) and fall out of my wheelchair considering I have been down for so long.

I'm coming to you today, to ask if you could please help me to raise the desired amount to reward my caretaker for his devoted work and care. I've kept track of all the hours since March 17th til today with 2324 hours so far and included the extra month of me attempting to get back up in the chair.

The hours include the full shift of my nurse clocking in at 11:00 p.m. beginning his night routine of preparing my midnight dinner, gett ing me ready for sleep, brushing my teeth, washing my face, catherizing me, changing and dressing the wound and then tucking me into bed at 2:00 a.m. Followed by me waking him up throughout the night to fix my body, then doing an extra catherization in the night to keep the wound dry, turning me side to side every 2 to 3 hours, getting me ready in the morning at 11:00 a.m., preparing my breakfast, bathing me along with the morning regimen of teeth brushing and washing my face and then of course feeding me brunch around 1:00 or 2:00 p.m. (12 to 15-hour shift at minimum wage).

The beginning of this year, I wanted to take my spirituality to a whole other level and I can tell you that through this experience I have definitely done that. It's during the times that when we're down and needing assistance when we find out who your true friends are. I understand that this pandemic has kept most of us apart, but during these difficult days Im grateful to those who have reached out, connected, sent their love or well wishes during my healing journey. I appreciate it so very much, and you know who you are. For my friends, who are continuously asking what they can do to help, well this is where I finally am asking for your help... If you could please donate a small portion, let's say buy me a coffee, a drink or even lunch (wink wink) but in the form of a donation towards this GoFund and then I'm able to pay for my care from THEN and NOW. And for those, who are in the same situation as I am due to the pandemic if you could kindly SHARE or PASS this GoFund around that would be wonderful.

I've always believed, "Each of us are Angels with only one wing, and we can fly by Embracing one another!" Thank you for helping me get back up off of the ground so that I could fly once again to take on the world with gusto!

Wishing all of you excellent health and a glorious rest of the week!

Love and light,
Angela Rockwood
