Help Me March the Phantom Regiment

Donation protected

Hello,

I am raising money to march my fourth year with the Phantom Regiment as front ensemble section leader. It's been a long journey here and I couldn't have done it without the incredible support and love from an unbelievable amount of friends and family, and once more I need to call upon that to make this possible.

I started percussion as a freshman in high school after watching one of my dear friends, Della, give a recital on the marimba. I was entranced! I immediately started taking lessons that summer. The following winter I joined my first marching percussion ensemble, and have been marching ever since.

I had one incredible summer with Spirit of Atlanta Drum and Bugle Corps in 2010. After that, I marched three years with the Phantom Regiment Drum and Bugle Corps from 2011-2013, and am returning for the 2014 season. I also have marched with various indoor lines, and am performing right now with Music City Mystique from Nashville, TN for my fourth year.

I think it's obvious by this point that the marching activity has played a pretty big role in my life recently, but my schooling has been just as important. I am a Music Education major at the University of Tennessee at Martin. The incredible faculty and student body here have not only made it possible for me to march and attend school, but have kept me motivated to push as hard as I can in my studies and performances while doing such.

How is that possible? Because I love what I do! I think there is something absolutely human about being able to share something from myself with others- whether that be through composing a woodwind quartet, playing "Gandalf" with the wind ensemble, teaching folk songs to a classroom of kindergarteners, sharing the field with 149 others to perform for thousands, or asking a few people in my studio to listen to a solo marimba piece.

Every year I march, I learn so much.
I become a better musician.
I learn how to work with others.
I learn how to think mindfully.
I learn about the industry.
I learn about me.
I learn how music can change lives.

So this is the part where I ask for help. I've never done something like this, because I usually have been able to gather the money on my own with the help of a my parents and a select few. Time and money have found theirselves stretched rather thin this year, and I can't do this on my own.

What am I paying for?

Member Fees: $3,000
Travel for 3 camps
Rent over the summer (as I won't have an income)

How can you help?

ANYTHING helps and means the world to me. $10, $20, $1, $500- anything! If even half of my facebook friends donated the money it would cost them to pay for a burger, I'd reach my goal!

I know that in the future, I will be the one giving up that food court meal or new DVD to help others- everybody deserves the chance to have this experience.

But right now I need your help. Nothing will go to waste- everybody involved in this season has big plans to make the absolute most of every second.

If you've made it this far, you are awesome and have spent enough of your time listening to my story. I'll wrap this up by saying thank you for reading, and that I truly appreciate every way that I have been helped and will be down the road.

Best wishes and SUTA,

Justin Lee
