Mallory's Scoliosis Treatment

Donation protected
Mallory was diagnosed with Idiopathic Scoliosis in October 2014.  This means her spine has an "S" shaped curvature that is not normal.  We have monitored this through many x-rays that showed the progression of her curve.  For the beginning stages, she wore a customized hard back brace that covered her whole torso from her arm pit to her hip.  She slept in this very uncomfortable brace overnight to slow the further twist. Within a year, the curve continued to advance to the point where we were referred to a Specialized Children's Orthopedic Doctor.  The xrays taken in October 2015 revealed that her curve was at 54 degrees, which was a 30 degree increase from 6 months prior.  Mallory was then recommended to have Spinal Fusion and a titanium rod inserted in her back at 12 years old.  After further research and discussions with many doctors, we have found an alternative treatment that will avoid surgery.  ScolioSmart Clinic has a two week program that will teach Mallory's brain to instruct her muscles to hold her spine properly through exercises and equipment specifically designed for her abnormal spinal shape.  Results from other patients that have attended this boot camp have shown reduction in their spinal  curvature.   She will have this program to follow when she comes home and especially through the final portion of her growth.  We will be attending this boot camp the first two weeks of Summer Break.  We really appreciate all of the thoughts & prayers through this past year and it will be a blessing to see my daughter fight this and get the right treatment.
