HELP MICHE STAY ON HIS FEET
Donation protected
Hi. My good friend Miche Jette has had a few rough years. After his job for the advocacy group Aboriginal Healing Foundation was closed he has worked several jobs, and is currently employed as a receptionist at the Centretown Community Health Centre, which provides crisis support and counselling in healthy eating, mental health and addiction, among other services. Last week he was blindsided with the news that he owed $191,471.97 in income tax for work in Ottawa that began more than a decade ago, despite an arrangement through an outsourcing company that he and thousands of other indigenous employees believed made them exempt from paying personal income tax on income earned off-reserve. While Miche is hoping that a legal solution for this problem will be found, his wages are currently being garnished, making it extremely difficult to support his family. None of your donations are intended to address the income tax debt above. The purpose of this crowd-sourcing campaign is to help Miche cover living expenses, rent and assist with personal debt while he is getting through this difficult period. He has added “I went public because I have been fighting/dealing with this for 15 years now. It affects my life, my relationships and I'm tired. I'm very tired. The last few years have been especially hard but I keep hanging in there, and I keep fighting the fight because I have a daughter and I did nothing wrong.”
