I am a Faculty Coach for a great group of students who are representing the State of Florida in the National Academic Decathlon competition in Honolulu, Hawaii, from April 22-April 28th, 2014. This is the 6th year we have been the sole team from our state to study, prepare, test, have fun, learn, raise money and travel to the National competition. We spend about four hours per week (in lunch hours, club meetings and at home) throughout the year learning about the topic (we've studied the French Revolution, the Great Depression, and Russia in past years) which really affects all of our learning in other subjects. In previous years, we have competed in Minneapolis, Charlotte, and Kansas City and we are VERY excited about going to Hawaii --- but it is extremely expensive for our small team to travel there! Can you help us?
There are nine students grades 9-12 from Christ's Church Academy in Jacksonville, FL, representing all levels of GPA and abilities, and they have spent the school year learning about this year's topic: World War I, on the 100th anniversary of the war. Students will compete in ten areas including Art History, Music Theory and History, Social Studies, Science, Math, Literature, Economics, Speech, Interview and Essay. The Nationals are a great place to meet students from all over the United States and we have learned so much about ourselves and others from this incredible program.
Please help FUND US as we try to reach our goal of $10,000 towards our travel and hotel costs for students and coach. By working and selling concessions we have raised the first $2,000 and we will be working until the last minute to cover our expenses. We will be very grateful and you will be proud of us! We would LOVE to put your name and logo on our shirts as we fly "Over There"!
