When Bunny was 3 months old, I noticed she was "leaking" urine. I had my vet look at her & pulled blood, & she determined it was probably a UTI & put her on antibiotics. The antibiotics helped some, but it didn't completely go away & then I ended up moving to a different county & switching vets. The new vet went in a did a culture, tried different antibiotics, and nothing helped. The next option was to take her to a specialist to go in with a scope to see what was going on & get a proper diagnosis.
I took Bunny to the specialist & turns out that she has what is called an ectopic ureter. Basically, one of the kidneys is dumping urine into her uterus instead of into her bladder, which is causing her to have urinary incontinence. The constant urine on her legs & butt cheeks has scalded her, which causes it to be raw and painful. I've tried vasoline & different creams but it doesn't help much. :(
The specialist recommends a nephrectomy, which is removal of the kidney. This will completely fix the leaking issue, and she will be able to live a completely normal life with no side effects!
Her condition isn't life threatening but it is extremely uncomfortable for her inside & out! So I'm fundraising in hopes to get her surgery done sooner than later.
I'm not one to ask for help, but this filly is dear to my heart. I'm a young horse person who works with rescue horses for a living & I just keep my head above water. Every penny helps.
Thank you so much for reading Bunny's story & even if you can't help donate towards her cause, PLEASE SHARE! :)
