Curvy Girls Convention 2014 for Trinity

My name is Trinity. I am an 8th grader and I swim competitively.

When I was nine, I was getting ready to go to a friends birthday party, but my back was hurting really bad. My dad researched reasons why it could be hurting. He had me bend over, then, he confirmed, it was scoliosis. So, later, mom and dad took me to the doctor, and they also confirmed it was scoliosis. My curve was not severe enough for a brace or surgery yet.

Years later, at age 13, I went in for my normal scoliosis checkup. After my X-Rays, my doctor told me that I needed a brace because my curve was getting worse. So, June 18, 2013, I received my brace.

At this time I felt very much alone. My family or friends didn't know what I was going through. My mom found a support group online call Curvy Girls. I started getting connected to other girls that were going through exactly what I was. They knew how I felt and had some great tips. This support group was started on the east coast so there weren't any from my area yet. I decided I wanted to connect with girls closer to me. I decided to become the Washington State leader for Curvy Girls.

I have just gotten started with recruiting girls in my area. I have a few and would like to get lots more so not one girl will feel alone. Curvy Girls is having a convention in June. At this convention I would learn about Leadership, Empowerment, Advocacy, Peer Support and Anti-Bullying.

I really want to go to this convention because, meeting all of our leaders, and doing activities with the girls, is really exciting to me. Everything is so inspiring about everyone, and being around these girls, hearing their advice and their words makes me feel like I am not alone.
