A Breath of Hope for Sandy (and others!)

Tax deductible
Ever heard of Pulmonary Fibrosis?

No - welcome to the club!

Yes - well then my sympathies, as that likely means that someone in your world has been impacted by this rare, but fatal, lung disease that affects an estimated 30,000 Canadians annually and is responsible for around 5,000 deaths each year.

In April 2021 my wonderful Dad was diagnosed with Idiopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis (IPF) - early diagnosis and treatment can help slow the progression of the disease, but the only known cure is a lung transplant.

In true Sandy Crawford fashion, we're facing this new reality with hope and curiosity. A blessing is is that we have time. But there is also no time to waste. In honour of my Dad I'll be hosting a number of fundraising events over the coming years with an ultimate goal of raising over $100,000 for lung research in Canada.

As step one, I will be running a marathon on November 7th to raise awareness + funds for IPF and the Lung Association of Canada. We've set a goal of raising $5,000 for this race - one dollar for each individual we loose annually to this disease.

Running has always been a passion my Dad and I have shared - the photo on this page is of him (chin up!) in Grade 11 at a Track Meet in Regina circa February 1968 - and I've loved feeling him with me each step of the way in the past 3 months of training.

Your donations can:

  • Make more lungs available for transplant by enabling the development of new technologies that maintain and repair lungs outside the body
  • Fund research into better cures and treatments
  • Provide rehabilitation programs to help the recovery of lung transplant patients and people with other lung conditions
  • Extend support programs to patients living in remote areas

The Canadian Lung Association is the leading organization in Canada working to promote lung health, while helping to prevent and manage lung disease: https://www.lung.ca/

Another great resource is the Canadian Pulmonary Fibrosis Foundation: https://cpff.ca/

Thanks to each of you for your contributions and support!

Much love and gratitude,

Alayne
