Dental Humanitarian Trip

Dear friends and family, As many of you already know, I am currently in my second year of dental school at Roseman University College of Dental Medicine. This summer, I have the opportunity to travel with Helping Hands, a humanitarian organization, to provide much needed dental care to villagers living in Jalapa Valley, Nicaragua. Helping Hands is a non-profit organization that brings medical relief services to people in rural villages of Nepal, Nicaragua, Vietnam, and Tibet. This organization has been providing medical and dental care in Nicaragua since 2007. http://www.helpinghandsusa.org/As a dental student volunteer, I will be providing dental services as well as dental education to those in the rural villages of Jalapa Valley, Nicaragua. I will be doing extractions and light restorative dentistry as well as teaching children the importance of brushing teeth and maintaining good oral hygiene. We will be traveling throughout the Jalapa Valley to provide dental care to approximately 10 villages in 10 days. Access to dentistry and dental resources are far and few between for these rural villages in Nicaragua. Every humanitarian effort is needed to improve the quality of life for these people.
