Help Linda to Volunteer in Guatemala

While this is a fundraising site I also want to use this as a way to let you all know what I am doing! I will be moving to Guatemala City in July to work with UPAVIM, a women's cooperative, as a tutor in their community school for almost a year. The cooperative has 88 local women who create fair trade crafts, run a bakery, medical clinic, produce soy milk, and operate a school and child care center. The organization started in 1988 with a medical program for the community and has continued to expand vastly over time. They are self-sustaining through selling crafts, soy milk, and baked goods. This program impowers many women who have been abandoned by their husbands in a very poor area and provides them with a living and hope for the future. I am so excited and blessed to be able to have the opportunity to live and work with the amazing women and children in this program. Children in Guatemala only go to half of a day of school, if they go at all, and so they come to the tutoring program for the other half of the day to get additional help with their work. Besides working half day with school aged children, in the mornings I will be working with the pre-schoolers and children with disabilities. I also will work with some young adults on their English skills and help the women in whatever way I can. Life will be very different in Guatemala but I am looking forward to the impact that I can have on them and they will have on me! Your support would be amazingly helpful in this endevour.
