Medical Bills

Donation protected
Before Katrina we had a paid for two family home and my wife and I both worked and we had a decent savings account  After Katrina and the hosing we got from Insurance we wound up selling the remains of our home for a fraction of the price.  My wife is now disabled.  We are now in a mortgaged double wide on our daughter's property. Between the storm, the oil spill, the recession, and my lifting restrictions, we are maxed out on our only credit card due to medical bills. I had 3 kidney procedures and one neck surgery in the past twelve months. On top of maxing out the card at $6,300, We have another additional approximately $6,000 accumulated in medical bills.  I am putting in applications to just about anywhere for anything but, in my 60's with a physical limitation I am not getting any takers.  I have an associates degree in criminal justice and 40 yrs experience so I get the overqualified nonsense a lot.  I took early SS at 62 in an effort to augment what little I was making at work.  $2,500 of the medical bills are owed to the VA.  I found out the hard way that any government agency can take funds from your SS check and not have to go to court first.  I either need to raise the funds for the medical bills, or try to file for bankruptcy.  Preferably I want to find a job, but, I have been rejected by even fast food outlets and  Convenience stores.  My unemployment insurance has given out.  I am aware that there are probably people in worse shape than we are.  I have worked since I was 12 yrs old and I am not being picky job hunting.  Any help would be appreciated.  Thank you all for your time
