Maggie the Rescue Lab- ACL repair/ rehab

Donation protected
We brought Maggie into our life on Feb 16, 2013. She was a very sick dog when we brought her into our home. The family that owned her kept her locked in a basement in a cage for the first year and a half of her life, she was suffering from a very serious medical conditon her owners were unaware of. They believe Maggie was a bad dog or untrainable. When she was finally surrendered to the rescuse the discovered how ill Maggie was, close to dying. They found she had a condition called Ectopic Ureters but because the family had allowed her to sit in urine and not get her medical attention she had UTI's and the infections went into her kidneys. The rescuse had surgery to help with the condtion and then we took her into our home. Sadly she was not fixed and she will never be out of the woods. She leaks often and we had her in diapers as needed and she has and always will be on very expensive medications. In Sept we had a surgery done where they put an artifical sphincter to help with her issues. The surgery failed and she was now unable to urinate on her own, in the span of a 3 weeks we were in the Emergancy vet 3 times. We had the artifical part taken out and a catheter put in. Shortly after the second surgery Maggie got another serious infection that went into her kidneys. Emercancy visit turned into being transfered to a critcal care hospital. Maggie was dying, the doctors asked us to come and spend time with her as we losing a battle. The next day our girl started to fight back and although she was still very ill she came back to us. She had to remain in the hospital for a few more days and when she was sent home to us she was on $500 medication on top of her already daily medicine. Maggie still leaks and always will, she will always be at high risk for an infection that could kill her. We take her to the vet everything 6-8 weeks to test for infections and test her urine. This has been beyond stressful and expensive for us over the past year. Sadly now Maggie has torn her ACL and needs it repaired. We simply do not have the funds for this since Oct was so bad for us with two surgeries,ER visits, medications,  critical care, and losing our beloved Chocolate lab. We don't want her suffer, she has suffered enough. She deserves to be a young dog and enjoy her life. We are told that once we repair the one knee the other side will probably blow out within a year but we are taking it one day at a time. It is not easy for us to ask for help as we believe she is our resposibility but we are trying to swallow our pride and do whats best for our sweet Maggie girl. Thank you for reading her story, thank you for your help, thank you for your love. We will never be able to thank you enough for helping us and for helping Maggie.
