COLON CANCER SUCKS!!!
Donation protected
On 10/2 Mike was taken to the ER for what we thought was a really bad UTI. He was in so much pain. After he got a room and was given pain medication they were able to give him a CT. That's when they found a perforation and large mass on his colon as well as some suspicious lesions on his liver. They admitted him with some heavy duty antibiotics.
10/3 He was taken for an emergency surgery since they were seeing real no improvement concerning the infection and pain. They were able to remove a small bit of the colon and do biopsies on the mass and lesions. Turns out it was Stage 4 Colon Cancer that had spread to his liver.
10/4 Today has just been pain management and ice chips kind of day.
10/5 Pretty much the same as yesterday, but he was able to get out of bed and get a small bit of walking in.
10/7 I was able to take Samie up to see him. He was a bit groggy as he had just got done with several labs around his floor and was really tired. She did say he looked better than she thought he would which made her feel a little better.
10/8 Alex went up with me today and he was able to hold a small conversation with him. He was still tired. They are getting him up and walking several times a day. Trying to wake up his body and get things moving again.
10/9 Both kids went up with me after work and he was quite awake. They shared what they had been dong the past week and he talked about he walks and his antics to keep the nursing staff on their toes.
10/10 He got one of the drainage tubes out today. Going back in for another CT scan later. Hoping for good news now that the infection is better under control. He's excited since he was finally cleared for clear liquids. Chicken broth never tasted so good!
10/11 He got the other drainage tube out. He was also taken off the pain meds pump. He is up an very mobile right now. CT from yesterday came back and looked good. He is now of soft food. All you can eat pudding and ice cream!
10/12 Been a rough day. He got his port put in so he can get the Chemotherapy. It was a bit tender, but it was the sore muscles there were the real pain today. Using those muscles to pull himself in and out of bed and off the chair made for real sore shoulder muscles. He was able to power threw with a bit of pain meds and actually got hid first real dinner. Roast beef and some mac/cheese. Talk about a happy camper. There is talk of him coming home tomorrow or at least this weekend sometime.
