Tyler Frea's Recovery - Stay Strong Weaz

We’re Tyler’s closest friends. He is an amazing guy who has been forced to endure an extremely rough and scary situation. He is strong, and we know he can get through this, but we don’t want him to have to go through this alone. We are not sure what to expect, but if nothing else, this will be a place to show support and get updates on his progress and recovery.
For those of you who may not know Tyler Frea, otherwise known as Weaz, he has always been a very well-liked individual. He is often the one to make everyone in the group laugh because of his opinionated, witty, and outspoken personality. He graduated from NWTC in prototype and design, (which seems to be what he was made for,) and is currently employed at Palmer Johnson Yachts in the design department. He has always been passionate about almost every type of racing, wrenching on his four-wheeler, or just hanging out with the guys. He is an overall good guy, and a great friend. Although he may be small, he is a lot stronger than most people think, and we all have no doubt he will get over this speedbump. It will just take time. We haven’t been able to visit him in the hospital since the initial surgery, so this is our way of showing Weaz that we’re thinking about him and continue to care about his progress.
On January 2nd, 2014, Tyler was having problems breathing. It was quickly determined that he needed help to breathe in the form of an Enodtracheal Tube (ET).
He was transported to St Vincent’s hospital in Green Bay, Wi and admitted to the Intensive Care Unit for just over a week. Everyone was greeted with good news when he was able to return home after just a short stay. After being home for a day or so Tyler began having trouble breathing, once again.
He was then transported back to St Vincent’s Intensive Care Unit, and the paramedics had to insert another ET and another tube in his side so he could breathe again. The Doctors then performed a procedure to prevent his lung from collapsing. This procedure is not often performed on patients with only one lung, so the risk was high.
Thankfully, his family and a few of his close friends were able to see him before surgery. He was justifiably scared but managed to stay strong. Not only was he staying strong for himself, but everyone that was with him. We were all scared, but it was nice to see the same old Weaz- being strong for all of us.
The surgery was a success! However Tyler soon began having trouble breathing again. The doctors had to insert another ET to help him breathe on a ventilator. At the time, the cause for his breathing trouble was unknown, so the decision was made to perform a tracheotomy. This enabled them to put him on a venitlator, which is much less painful that the repeated ET's.
It was soon determined that he would need to be transferred to a more specialized facility near Milwaukee, where he is now, in West Allis on 02/14/2014. Here, Weaz is taking more tests and performing breathing exercises to strengthen his diaphragm.
Thanks for supporting our friend Tyler, he has been through a lot already and has a long road ahead of him. He is still unable to have visitors at this time because the testing and exercises take a lot out of him. Another great way to be there for him and show your support is through letters. Let’s let Weaz know he’s not alone.
