After several months of coughing, my brother David had a chest CT showing lesions (tumors) in both lungs. Knowing they appeared cancerous but hadn't started in the lungs more tests were done last week. They just diagnosed him with Stage 4 bile duct cancer (cholangiocarcinoma). The day he was given the results of his CT he was alone at the appointment as his wife Larisa was undergoing radiation therapy for her breast cancer, a fight she has been battling since last May.
Next week he gets a port placed and chemo will start with the hope the treatment decreases the size of the lung tumors and he can breath easier. There is a 30% chance of remission and we are praying he is in that group.
David's powerhouse fight has just started while Larisa is close to winning her fight. Life continues around them but their days seem to have stopped and the bills have not. As one can imagine, the struggles for them were great after dealing with Larisa's cancer and to be hit with this is overwhelming all around. The positives on his side are that he is young at age 47, relatively healthy and hasn't had the massive weight loss found with this type of cancer. Our goal is to keep him healthy and with this fundraising, we are hoping the stresses they lived through with Larisa will be less with his battle for his life. Any amount you can give to help David and Larisa get through without worrying about the next bill is so greatly appreciated and we are thankful for the love and support of our communities.
