Funding Goal
Our team is shooting a student film for our senior practicum class and need the help of our friends and peers. We look to make the best film possible but need the proper funding for our goal to come true. We are looking to raise $1,000 for our project and any amount of donation will help. Please help a group of talented student filmmakers create the film of their dreams.

Synopsis of Film

"Dinner Party", the name of the film, brings awareness to social anxiety in an enlighting way.  Nic has to face his social anxiety when his girlfriend decides to throw a dinner party. Even though he experiences mistakes as a chef, his peers accept him nonetheless. However, it takes him multiple nightmare fantasies before realizing this simple fact.

Film Crew
Katherine Brandi (Director)

I've always been fascinated by how people communicate and while watching a documentary, it occurred to me that film is the way I wanted to communicate with people. With a background in photography and cinematography, I've recently branched out into directing. I wrote this story because social anxiety is something I've witnessed as afflicting many people. And, it's something I haven't seen often depicted in a film. In order to stray away from a depressing depiction of anxiety, I aim to portray it by mixing dark themes with a lighthearted tone. Supplementally, this film will be apart of my graduate application, where I will attempt to pursue writing for film.

Daniel Hardy (Producer)

My name is Dan, and I am an aspiring filmmaker graduating from Sacramento State in Spring 2019. I have been making films since my journalism class in high school where I wrote, produced, and directed comedic shorts (at least, they were funny back then) to promote yearbook sales. It was my first experience truly doing the thing that I dreamed of since middle school, and I loved every second of it. I chose to work on Dinner Party for two primary reasons: I have previously worked with Katherine Brandi, our director, and I consider her a close friend; I can also clearly see the vision she has for the film and I wholeheartedly believe in it. I also have somewhat of a personal connection to the story and themes of the film: I suffer from social anxiety as Nic does and can heavily relate to the pressure of being a good host and “putting on a show” in high-pressure social situations. It is a deeply personal story to me and I am already thoroughly enjoying the process of making it all come together into a reality. This is easily the most excited I have ever been for a production and I can’t wait to see where it goes!

Alexander Lubinsky (Art Director)

I’m a senior Sacramento State film student with a future of teaching in my plans.  I got into film because I have always loved how movies make me feel and I wanted to be a part of it.  As soon as I heard about Dinner Party, I knew I wanted to be a part of it because I was able to immediately picture it in my mind.

Matthew Johnson (Director of Photography)

The skate park is my gym, I've worked as a youth pastor at my church for the last 7 years and own a small wedding videography business. What I love about film is the ability to tell a story in a way that captures the essence of the moment. My dream is to shoot short documentary and promotionals for global non-profit organizations. As a director of photography, I want to capture what speaks the truth about humanity through the lens of a camera. I signed onto this project because even though this is a light-hearted and fun film, the themes of anxiety and family are universal and run throughout it and I want to capture these moments.

Obed Holland III (Editor/Sound)

I aspire to be a video editor of all content ranging from commercials to films and even television. Since my senior year of high school, I've always wanted to make a film one day. I have been editing videos for 3 years now and look to further my editing skills in grad school in Texas.  So far I've edited documentaries, narratives, music videos, and short films. The reason for my choosing to work on 'Dinner Party' is because I see the potential in this film. Anxiety is a serious matter and should be talked about more especially among the younger generation. My passion is to tell a story and help it come alive using visual elements. I plan to help carry out the director's vision to tell a story with my editing skills.
