6th Annual GTCC Christmas Fund

Donation protected
Family and Friends,

It's time again for our annual fundraiser benefitting at risk teens in the foster care system. These teens are awaiting homes and will spend this Christmas in a temporary shelter (Governor Terry House in Wilmingon) until that happens.

The chances of being placed during the holiday if at all is slim to none for teens already so we like to try and do something special for them during the holidays. Funding for the shelter is hard to come by (see attached letter) and is looking at further cuts, so individual donations go a long way. Our mission is try to help raise money to buy each child their very own Visa gift card to spend on whatever they want. We also take left over funds and purchase additional gifts for the shelter that they can all use and or benefit from (art supplies, sports equipment, games, etc). Most of these kids will go without receiving any gifts this year under the circumstances unless we step up and help.

As most of you know, I spent 5 years in the foster care system back in the early 90's. I never forgot how tough it was to go through that and I can still remember how much I appreciated receiving gifts from complete strangers each year who thought of kids like me during the holidays. It was gestures like this that helped me see that people did care when I thought no one did. It inspired me to pick myself up, work hard and create a life for myself so I could make good on their investment in me. It is because of this that I feel so strongly about doing the same for other kids who are dealing with the same circumstances and could use a little something to push and inspire them to keep moving forward.

This is the 6th year for this fundraiser and it has grown each year. Matt Martelli and I would like to raise enough to start building a trust that will not only be used for the holidays, but also for group trips, and scholarships for kids who want to seek higher education or vocational training.

Last year we raised about $5,200 and each kid got $200 visa gift card (12 kids) as well as bowling certificates, duffle bags filled with toiletries and some misc items for the shelter. The shelter also received some much needed repair work and we were also able to help have lights installed beyond the facility so the kids could play basketball at night.

THIS YEAR OUR GOAL IS $7,000!!!!!

I hope each of you has a great Thanksgiving and Christmas and thank you for your continued support of this great cause.
