Our family member, Mark Mayse, is in Intensive Care at St. Francis Hospital. For the past several months, Mark has been undergoing chemotherapy for his third bout with non-Hodgkins lymphoma in the past 14 years. In January, Mark became very ill with a cough and fever. He was admitted to the hospital and diagnosed with bilateral pneumonia. After further testing, it was determined he had contracted the H1N1 flu virus also. Due to his compromised immune system from chemotherapy, Mark does not have the blood cells needed to help fight this virus even though he has been given IV antibiotics, blood transfusions, anti-virals, etc.
Mark has a long fight ahead of him, battling this acute illness, rehabilitation, and re-addressing the lymphoma at some later time. His medical condition is critical right now.
Desperate times call for desperate measures. This crisis has placed Mark's family in severe financial situation. Mark has health insurance but there are now new 2014 deductibles and co-pays. He does not have any short or long-term disability insurance through his employer. He cannot get social security disability until he has been off work a year. A cancer policy through AFLAC has kept them afloat up to this point, but since he is not undergoing cancer treatment right now, the benefits have ceased. The only income is his wife's. Both of their daughters are in college.
We need to ask for our family and friends' help so that this serious situation does not cause his family to lose their home, vehicle, or utilities. Any amount would be greatly appreciated and put into a fund to help with the bills. Mark has been a good Christian servant and has helped so many others in the community, and now we are asking for anyone who can to rally around him and his family and cradle them with your love, prayers, or donations during this stressful time.
