Reforestation Project Portugal

Hello dear reader, we are a family which has moved to portugal to have a lifestyle that has less impact on nature, and work towards giving something back to nature.

The road towards this takes 'a bit' longer than we expected, but a big part of our food is local or from our own garden, we try to eat as much wild herbs as possible, we use natural fertilizers, we are completely off grid, and our buildings are about 90% made up out of natural materials, like wood (pretty much all local), cob (a mix of sand, clay and straw) and stones.

One area on which we particularly want to focus is reforestation. Unfortunately building our house consumed so much time, energy and money that we did not plant as much trees as we would have liked and hoped. With the incredible heat and drought here in summertime a part of these even died.

By now we believe to have quite a good view of what is needed here to plant - and keep - more trees. Our house is still not completely finished, but we feel like really putting an effort to plant a big amount of trees/bushes at the end of this year, and to make sure we have the possibility to water them properly.

We believe reforestation in this area of portugal (castelo branco) would be extremely helpful since it would protect the soil from overheating, hold more water in the soil, attract/bring back more wild animals and plantspecies and give a bit of a counterbalance to all the trees that are cut worldwide for various reasons.

At the moment we are 'only' looking at 1.7 hectares to plant trees on, but for us this is just a start. We hope that you want to help us on our reforestation mission by donation. If we would be able to collect 2500, we can set up a quite big greenhouse to start growing our own trees, rent a digger to improve the watersituation on the land and dig reservoirs to keep water, and already buy about 300 small trees and materials to water them properly!

We are really curious if crowdfunding will be the way to help us start this project, but we have good hopes. Hope to hear from you!
