On July 26th, 2017 my 18 month old nephew Peter Mullings Jr. (PJ) was diagnosed with Wilms tumor. Wilms tumor is a kidney cancer that is commonly found in children. When diagnosed by Doctors the cancer had reached stage III.
On August 2nd 2017 PJ went through surgery to remove the tumor. Little did we know the cancer had spread and the doctors had to remove the entire left kidney. Since July 23rd, 2017 when PJ was admitted to the hospital, his mother Karlene Ferron has not left his side, and I am sure all the mothers out there are their childrens biggest advocate. She had to give up her job as a private nurse to stay with her son in the hospital. The doctors have stated that little PJ will have to stay in the hospital for at least a month or more after the surgery to recover since eventually chemotherapy will follow.
We all hear about people passing from cancer, or know someone who has died from cancer. But it's hard to fathom when it is your child, sibling, or loved one. A child that has not even turned 2 yet is even more distressing to see ill as that at such a young age they are the epitome of innocence. How do you console the mother or even comprehend the pain she feels? How do we console the father and even try to understand the hurt he feels?
We do not know when PJ's mother will be able to return to work or how her and Peter will manage to pay the meical bills and for all the medications that would be required.
We are asking any family or friends that can assist Karlene Ferron and Peter Mullings with caring for Little PJ's medical bills and medical needs to give what ever they can. Nothing is ever too small when giving, and everything will be appreciated.
