Sailor in Distress

I got to know Stig from Denmark through the Facebook group Sailing and Cruising.
Stig bought a 39' sailing yacht, sight unseen on the web, in Port Charlotte, Florida. As a sailor, Stig, wanted to fulfill his dream and sail to the Caribbean now that he got retired and he bought this 39' yacht, Caribbean Soul, as a project that he could work on and sail on at the same time. There was no survey done on the boat as it was considered a "project boat" and Stig did not have any experience with the sailing waters of Charlotte Harbor. On Christmas Day, Stig ran hard aground in Bokeelia on Pine Island.
He has no towing insurance and to refloat his yacht would cost a small fortune. Living in the area and member of that Facebook page, I volunteered to help him and soon other local people in the Sailing and Cruising group stepped up he plate. (Thank you, Richard Gullen, from Punta Gorda, who volunteered to try to tow him off).
Local Bokeelia residents graciously invited Stig in their home, fed him and plied him with numerous Black Russian cocktails, let him use their bathrooms and let him do his laundry. The generosity shown by many has been heartwarming but, unfortunately, Stig's yacht is now in worse shape than what we all had thought.
His rudder has split and his rudderpost came loose with the risk that water would flood the yacht and sink it. His chainplates are corroded and need replaced. One has already broken. It was totally rotten.
In a sense, it was a blessing in disguise. If those chainplates had broken during an offshore passage, the boat could have sunk.
Tow Boat US can tow off his boat from the sandbank and bring it to a haul-out yard and we guesstimate that the cost for this will be well over $10,000.00.
Stig's money is running out. He spent $19,000.00 buying his retirement dream and his pension payments will not cover his expenses.
We are looking for goodhearted fellow sailors and sailing enthusiasts who can contribute a bit to help him.  Anything can help.
Stig still believes his dream can come true and he plans on living on his yacht on the hard while repairing it.
Stig is such a likeable fellow that we could not help feel sorry for him and we wanted to help him in any way we can.
Thank you in advance for your generosity.
