Please Help Stroke Survivor Kirk Elam!

A few days before Christmas 2013, our dad Kirk Elam suffered a massive stroke while caring for his elderly mother in San Antonio, TX. Because he was traveling alone, we believe it was over 24 hours from the time of his stroke to the time he was discovered. He underwent emergency brain surgery, and after weeks in the ICU, Kirk has beaten the odds and has progressed to a Neuro Rehab in Austin, TX. It is nothing short of a miracle that he survived such a massive brain bleed and being down such a long period of time. Kirk's incredible will to survive and hard work has allowed him to progress farther than we ever imagined. Kirk has been in inpatient medical care since Dec.19, including three weeks of ICU care. The cost of such excellent and intensive care does not come cheap. As a result, our family, especially our mother and Kirk's wife of 45 years, Floy, has been burdened with massive medical bills. We also believe Kirk will need more inpatient rehab than his insurance will cover. (Gotta love insurance companies.) After he is released from rehab, although he will be surrounded by his loving family, Kirk will require assistance with daily living tasks, wheelchairs, ect. The cost of these services are daunting.
Although it is not comfortable for our family to ask for help, the best outcome for Kirk requires us to do so. We recognize times are hard for many people, not just our family.
