<div>On the 5th of July 2025 staff from across Leigh Trust, will be taking on the challenge of climbing Snowdonia to raise money for Motor Neurone Disease (MND). This cause is incredibly close to our hearts, as we are doing this to support our dear friend and colleague, Julie Greenwood, who recently received the devastating news that her 30-year-old son, Tom, has been diagnosed with this cruel and life-changing disease.

<div>MND is a progressive condition that affects the nerves in the brain and spinal cord, leading to muscle weakness and loss of mobility. It has a profound impact not only on those diagnosed but also on their families and loved ones. There is currently no cure, but with your help, we can raise funds to support vital research and provide care for those affected.

<div>"Last summer, my son Tom was tragically diagnosed with Motor Neurone Disease (MND) at the age of 29. MND is a terminal neurodegenerative disease that typically gives a life expectancy of 2-5 years. It is an incredibly cruel illness that takes away so much, but it cannot take away the strength, courage, and kindness that define Tom.

<div>Tom is genuinely one of the most wonderful people you could ever meet. His compassion, kindness, and genuine care for others shine through in everything he does.
</div>

<div>Tom has a PhD in plant biology with an emphasis on sustainability, and a passion for protecting the environment. His career and much of his personal life have been dedicated to making the planet a better and more sustainable place. He has an admirable ability to call out injustice, always doing the right thing with humility and grace.
</div>

<div>Tom has an astonishing knowledge of sporting trivia, historical events, and even George Ezra lyrics, making him a joy to be around. Despite the enormous challenges that MND brings, Tom has remained positive, courageous, and continues to wish the best for everyone around him. However, MND has brought with it significant changes. Tom was always an incredibly talented athlete, excelling in rugby and completing fun runs and marathons, but now he cheers on the teams he can no longer play for.

<div>The Motor Neurone Disease Association has been a lifeline for Tom and our family, providing support through listening ears, equipment to improve his quality of life, and vital advice. Their work is invaluable, not just in assisting those affected, but also in funding research to hopefully find a cure for this devastating disease. As a way to help Tom and others like him, we are raising funds for the MND Association. Your support, whether through donations or spreading the word, will help Tom, our family, and countless others who are affected by this disease. Every contribution makes a real difference.
