My mom passed away on February 3, 2014. She was diagnosed with a rare form of multiple sclerosis several years ago and a few years ago was diagnosed with gastroparesis, which both slowly began to impact her nutritional needs. She has had several operations to help treat the gastroparesis; two years ago she had a gastric stimulator placed with electrical connections to the surface of her stomach and last year she had a PICC line placed to receive total parenteral nutrition (TPN) since she could not get enough nutrition by eating. Unfortunately, the need for nutrition was not her only battle, the gastroparesis caused for her to be in much pain and unable to lead a normal life or to keep nutrition in her body. Overtime she became very weak and the pain only got worse. She has had many hospital visits over the past year for extended periods of time. A few months ago she decided to start tube feedings in hopes to boost her nutrition and it was not successful due to an increase in stomach pains and being nauseas. She decided last week to end all treatment and be pain free by going on comfort care.
My father has been by her side every step of the way. Unfortunately between the amount of hospital bills and personal hardships we need help with the funeral costs and medical expenses to come. Any contribution would be greatly appreciated and we will be forever grateful.
She was an amazing wife, mother, grandmother and friend. She always put everyone before her, even through her own tough times.
