What happens To A Dream Deferred Project

Cherokee Street Development League and Encore! Theater Group! need YOUR help to bring Lorrain Hansberry’s CLASSIC, A Raisin in the Sun to Life!
Cherokee Street Development League and Encore! Theater Group partner to promote art, culture, and innovation around Cherokee Street and the surrounding neighborhoods. We believe that by integrating arts and culture, we can do our small part to help revitalize the community. We also feel that participating in the arts nourishes the soul! It’s about more than just painting, singing, or dancing. Through the arts women and men, girls and boys become equal; the disabled become able; the shy experiment with bravery; and even the gifted become part of the whole. The lesson we teach, and learn, is that all of them are necessary for the show to go on. After all, ‘All the world is a stage!’ Through our “What Happens to a Dream Deferred?” project, we will be using Langston Hughes text to explore some of  the consequences our community experience as a result of “Deferred Dreams.” Our production of Lorraine Hansberry’s American classic will feature:

Two free community workshops where attendee’s can network with resource providers, get connected to services, and enjoy food and prizes:

*It’s not what’s WRONG? It’s what do you NEED? (February 2nd, 2019)

*H.E.A.D. (Health Environment Attitude, Desire) (February 16, 2019)

There will be a Community Clean Up Competition and a Community Change Drive (coordinated with the the community businesses) with proceeds going to implement stronger youth programming in the Cherokee Neighborhood.
A free Q&A Session with the Cast and Talk Back following the show allowing community members an interactive experience with the production
Special ‘pay what you can night’ every Thursday night during the run for discounted ticket price for community members

Furthermore, Roosevelt High School and Saint Louis Job Corps will each see the production free of charge.
This is where you come in. WE NEED YOUR HELP! Because of cutbacks in support for art programs, and because good art is not free, we need to raise money from community members, family members, friends, loved ones, and any willing to champion our cause.
A Raisin in the Sun will cost approximately $7,500 to produce with $1500.00  needed just for rights alone!

We are already a portion of the way to our goal (thanks to Uber!), but we still need your help!

Please consider a gift at any level to help us ensure this production and future collaborations will continue in our community.
