Friends, co-workers and community members are joining together to raise funds for Cynthia's burial and memorial service ...

It is with deep sadness that we acknowledge the passing of our colleague, friend, and long-time community activist, Ms. Cynthia Harris. She died unexpectedly on Thursday, January 23, 2014, due to illness. Ms. Harris was a tireless advocate and ally for people living with HIV/AIDS and everyone affected by the epidemic. She worked across a wide variety of disciplines for many different agencies over the years, including Whittier Street Health Center, Community Servings, Fenway Community Health Center and The Boston Pediatric and Family AIDS Project. Ms. Harris served as co-chair of Massachusetts HIV Prevention Planning Group, and as a member of the Women Of Color Roundtable. For more than a decade, she guided prevention efforts at the Multicultural AIDS Coalition, specifically focusing on faith communities, Black women, and Black LGBTQ communities.

Cynthia left an indelible mark on our work to end the HIV/AIDS epidemic. One of her favorite scriptures can be found in the Bible - Hosea 4-6: "My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge." Her legacy, which touched us all, is a lifetime of service to neighbors, clients, and friends. Whenever anyone needed help or an encouraging word, she was always willing to provide it. She reminded us every day that we need to work together as a community.

We will truly miss her.
