Save "Kevlar" the Dog!

"Kevlar" is a beautiful and sweet Pitbull mix puppy suffering from a rare but curable disease, and he needs your help!  A few nights ago a physician in the U.S. Army found Kevlar by his house, weak and in distress, with evidence of a badly performed, botched ear crop job. Although he was very sick, Kevlar never stopped wagging his tail and being friendly to his rescuers.  Despite the fact that Kevlar was a stray, and that the physician's wife was due to have a baby, and that he was also getting ready to deploy, the Army physician rushed him to the local veterinary emergency hospital for care, where I was the veterinarian on duty that late night.  The physician paid for Kevlar's emergency vet bill out of his own pocket.  During the night, Kevlar began showing other odd signs that led us to realize that Kevlar had contracted tetanus! I paid for additional tests and medicine myself in hopes that I could keep him alive long enough to find someone to continue his care in the morning.  I contacted two other Army veterinarians  at the local base who agreed to foster the dog and continue to treat him for this rare and potentially deadly, but curable disease. Like the Army physician, they, too, are paying for his care out of their own pockets. Kevlar continues to improve slowly, but he's not out of the woods and will require intensive care treatment for several weeks, and expensies are adding up.  Let's help offset the cost of Kevlar's care and show our apprecition to these brave active duty military personnel who  put their own concerns and finances aside to show compassion to this puppy in need.
