Christopher's fund for Our Lady of Mount Caritas

We are a nonprofit organization that was established in December 1979. Our founder was the Benedictine Nun, Mary Peter, OSB. In the Benedictine Spirituality, all are treated as visits from the Divine One, hence, all people are welcome regardless of race, religion, sexual orientation, place of national origin, or any category that seems to divide humanity.

Through the many years much has changed, but the spirit of welcoming has not. Mother Mary Peter has gone to her reward, but her spiritual children continue, to the best of their ability, to live her dream.

In light of this reality we are seeking help from all who read this message. At this point we make lease payments to a realty company that owns the property where we serve the people who come to us. In the new lease our payment monthly has risen from $3,000.00 to $4,500.00. To deal with this increase, we are planning to reopen our bakery. It has been closed for 5 years. To do that we need financial help. We have the volunteers to run it with a baker who has volunteered her services. There are startup expenses, and part of the funding we receive will be used to do this. Also, immediately, the funding will help us pay the increased lease payments.

In living the vision of Mother Mary Peter, we house two families that need some help in avoiding homelessness. Our director works with them to develop the skills to have self-sufficiency. We also work with an adult home providing a food pantry and transportation for the residence in a neighboring town. In this section of Connecticut, there does not exist public transportation other than, car service.

To assist us in our endeavors, we are asking for $5,000.00.
