So those who don't know me, my name is Katrina Paulson. And those who do... Hiiiiiii!
I have to have a surgery for a condition called a "Cavernous Malformation", basically its a dilated blood vessel thats in my head that has been causing me to have partial brain seizures for the past year. The call them "partial" because I don't pass out or convulse but I experience the beginning stages of one.
After having them for awhile I was convinced to go see a doctor and he explained (after having an MRI) that my options are to either remove it, or live with it knowing that its basically a time bomb waiting to go off and this is my warning. The next step is a full brain seizure, or having it leak blood into my head causing a stroke and/or brain damage. While being on anti-seziure meds for life, which I can personally tell you drive me insane.
During the procedure they have to cut into my skull by my right temple, and through my jaw muscle in order to remove it. Then replace part of my jaw muscle with bone to help keep me from having issues later in life with little things like....chewing.
After that I have to spend one night in the ICU, before getting to graduate to the normal hospital for two nights. After that I'll be sent home for 6 weeks to recover... which sounds like a blast considering half my face will be black and blue and swollen.
The main issue, I could not enroll in classes this term due to all of this, and because I am not taking classes, PSU has cancelled my insurance, the hospital is willing to cover 70-80% of the medical bills but paying 20-30% is still a lot of money, in addition I have to miss 6 weeks from work and trying to figure out how I am going to pay my bills. Kind of sad that I'm more concerned with that, then about the fact they are going to be cutting into my skull...
For those who don't know, I am a Massage Therapist for a living and work hard to help other people with their stress, both mentally and physically. I have a very difficult time being the center of attention and would rather try to help you and make you feel safe and comfortable than to ask for help for myself.
That's where you come in. I need your help with my stress. Please help me, by donating anything, even $1 to help me not have to worry about bills while I'm recovering.
