Hi! My name is Zoë and I am a student at the George Washington University studying International Affairs and Geography with a minor in Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and a concentration in International Development.
In mid-June I will be leaving for the adventure of a lifetime. I will be spending 6 weeks in Chiang Rai, Thailand working with the Mirror Foundation on outdoor projects with local hill tribes. I will be working on land management to prevent soil exhaustion, organic farming practices and general economic development.

From there, I will go directly to Gaborone, Botswana to study with CIEE at the University of Botswana. I plan to take classes on Africa's role in world politics, population movements and the local language of Setswana in addition to an internship with a local NGO or company. While in Botswana, CIEE takes us on a Safari and I plan on traveling to surrounding countries including South Africa and Namibia.
This is a once in a lifetime opportunity to see the world and learn so much. Learn about other cultures directly, meet new people, put my classroom knowledge into practice and so much more I can't even imagine. But funding this trip is so very expensive.
The breakdown of my additional costs (the study abroad in Botswana is included in my university fees):
$3,284: Flights (San Francisco to Chiang Rai to Gaborone to San Francisco)
$939: Thailand housing, meals and program fee for 6 weeks.
Total: $4,223
