Medical and family expenses
On Saturday, January 5, 2014, Julie Hanlin went to the emergency room with severe stomach pain. Tests were begun and she was given pain medication and a referral to her family doctor. She knew something else was wrong and decided to see her gynecologist instead. She saw her doctor on January 10, where they found a mass on her uterus and immediately sent her to McGee Women's Hospital in Pittsburgh, PA.
At her first appointment at McGee on Monday, January 13, Julie was told that not only did she have a cancerous mass on her uterus, there were nodules on her lungs and more testing was necessary. This diagnosis was confirmed on January 16 and doctors scheduled testing for January 20. Upon arriving at McGee on January 20, Julie was told that additional testing was unnecessary because the cancer had spread to other areas of her body including her heart and urethra. The prognosis is Stage 4 cancer. Julie was immediately admitted to McGee Hospital and put on heavy sedation. She was dehydrated and had already lost 20 pounds.
Julie and her husband, Ed (aka Dubie), have been together for 32 years. They are raising their 16-year-old son, Jason; and have recently learned that their 24-year-old daughter, Ashley, will soon welcome their first grandchild.
Julie and Dubie have both worked for Eat n Park for over 25 years. Now, they have lost over half of their income and are struggling to not only pay for medical expenses, but also to maintain their home for their children and new grandchild.
Julie is the soul of this family. She needs all the help and support we can find. No amount is too small. Every dollar will directly help Julie, Dubie and their family.
