Save My Voice

Hey guys, it's Andre. I'm running a GoFundMe to save my voice.

I need surgery to return my singing voice before dysphonia begins to affect my speaking voice.

Three years ago, I had persistent hoarseness and a nodule (a callous on the vocal fold) that we addressed with a tonsillectomy and cessation of singing.

Unfortunately, when you have an injury on a part of your body you use every day, your body compensates. Mine compensated and now I have a polyp (and an indentation made by the polyp hitting my other vocal fold).

Polyps don't generally go away but any blemish on the vocal folds changes the quality and consistency of a voice.

I've been singing for as long as I can remember.

I grew up singing R&B and Soul, but I studied Pop, Jazz, and Classical.

My voice is as much a part of me as my feet, but these problems only begin in my singing. They'll migrate back toward my speaking voice if I don't address them while the polyp is small.

I use my voice to communicate daily but it's also a huge part of my work, both creative and professional.

Unfortunately, in this country, healthcare reflects the adage: You get what you pay for.

My surgery costs $6214. I have a two week recovery time; as a waiter, if I don't work, I don't make money. That's $2000 in missed earnings.  Rounding up to $8500 but that won't cover GoFundMe's $.30 per contribution or 2.9% cut. I'll spend hundreds of dollars on vocal therapy as well, but I intend to manage those costs by myself.

Any support available is appreciated. I need your help to solve this voice problem before it becomes several more problems.

Thank you in advance.
