Abi & Vasti in Africa (Lagos to Addis)

UPDATE
Our first goal was met on day one! And people are still supporting us so I want to share how the extra funds raised will be used!
As it was stated in the initial description, the funds raised are for equipment upgrade and a small amount going towards translators and interviewees in Nigeria/Ethiopia.
Now that there are potential donors interested to help support our projects, Vasit and I have decided to expand the number of interviewees and locations we want to visit! The more finance we get the more we can go out and collect stories of the everyday life of artists, activists, mothers, fathers and community leaders. We believe these stories are powerful in creating realistic and diverse images of Africa!
When we decided to move to Africa, we had plans of visiting at least three countries, Nigeria, Burkina Faso and Ethiopia. However, after looking at our finances it was not feasible to travel to all three countries so we decided to go to Nigeria and Ethiopia. Depending on how much we raise

1. We hope to travel within Nigeria and Ethiopia further than we had originally planned, bringing diversity to the project.

2. We hope to extend the project to a third country, Burkina Faso and conduct similar projects with the help of our friend Lassane Wedlass, a communications and Public Relations major from Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso!

NOTE: I would like to mentions that our Nigeria trip would have been so difficult to arrange without the help of our good friend, artist Sunday Mahaja, who took immigration responsibility for me to get into the country!

Please support any way you can! Every contribution is an additional voice to our project, voices that are often misunderstood, voices that are worth hearing!
Thanks you so much again! And AGAIN! VERY MUCH!!!

Here is August Udoh, one of the upcoming Nigerian photographers that I will be interviewing and sharing ideas with. please visit his page, so much good stuff!

Greetings,
My name is Abi. I am an artist from Ethiopia but living in Goshen, Indiana, USA. I'm married to Vasti Rosado, a peacemaker, listener and activist who is currently working on her thesis in Lago, Nigeria.

In March 2014 I will join her in Nigeria to work on a photo-book and short video projects. Then we plan to go to Ethiopia to continue the project in June 2014.

The photo-book hopes to deliver images that present the real Africa that is not fantasized as seen in most mainstream media. The videos hope to show the everyday life of the people of Nigeria and Ethiopia.

We have used our savings to finance majority of the trip, including transportation and place to stay. Now we need a little financial support for us to produce quality photos and video.

The funds raised will be used for

1. Fixers/Translators
-English doesn't go very far in Africa. Translators are very essential for conducting interviews, specially when we travel out of the city.

Camera Equipment Upgrade
2. DJI Zenmuse Gimbal
-I got a DJI Phantom Quadcopter for Christmas. Aerial photography/videography will add a dramatic angle for the videos and photos. However after a few tests the quality of footage was not professionally usable unless a stabilizer is installed.
Please click here to see the stabilizer.

Here is a link to a video I made for Vasti as a test!

3. Wireless Video Transmitter
-This is needed to connect the camera on the quadcopter to an LCD screen on the ground.

In exchange for your contribution I will be happy to present you with a lovely ceramic piece I made for my senior show at Goshen College!
NOTE: I have limited ceramics pieces to give out so it will be a first come first served type of deal!

Thank you so much for your time and contribution!

Lots of Love

Abi and Vasti
