My name is Sherry, and I am looking for donations in order to purchase a diabetic alert dog for my sweet grandson Kaleb.
We have been looking into purchasing a diabetic dog for Kaleb, but the price of one is way too high at $15,000. My husband and I are on a measly CPP disability pension and we just can't do it and neither can his parents (my daughter and her husband, Lisa and Jody)
On May 3, 2014 Kaleb was diagnosed with Type 1 diabites. He was only 4 years old at the time. Our world fell apart that day, however we have adjusted over time. At first this poor little guy was getting anywhere from 4 to 6 injections of insulin per day, not counting the pricks in his fingers to check his blood levels. This went on for a whole year. His mom and dad tried to control his sugar levels, with no avail. His blood sugar counts were either too high or way to low. Never a happy medium. Then after a year we thought we'd hit the jackpot when he qualified for the pump. Again we have not been able to regulate his levels. His mom and dad have spent countless nights with no sleep due to checking his blood levels all through the nights. Even his specialists cannot understand what is going on with him.
His mother, Lisa has found him crying on mumerous occasions because of his lows, and once he told his Mom "I don't want to die Mommy"
The diabetic alert dog will sense when his sugar levels are low and alert his parents, and probably save his life.
In the last few months he has also been diagnosed with Ciliac Disease and Eosinophilic esophagitif.
He just cannot catch a break.
It would mean so much to me if we would raise enough money to purchase a diabetic alert dog, which would be purchased as soon as we meet our goal and I, his grandmother as well as his grandfather and his parents would be forever thankful for your donations, and you would have the satisfaction of knowing that you would be helping my little Hero.
