Funding Gina's Medical Bills

Donation protected
Gina is a beautiful 52-years-young woman, wife, and mother of two grown children who are both serving in the Navy.

More than 3 years ago Gina was diagnosed with Chronic Myeloid Leukemia (CML), a form of leukemia that is treated by oral medications. She had been managing this disease very successfully until December 2013, when Gina burned her hand while baking Christmas cookies. It seemed to be an innocent small burn on her knuckle but she was unaware that the leukemia medication she had been taking had stopped working. Unbeknownst to her, the disease had mutated and her body's immune system was non-existent. Within a few days, the burn became infected and set her health on a rapid downward spiral. She was admitted to the University of Pennsylvania Hospital with a life-threatening leukemia "blast crisis" in addition to advanced cellulitis from the infected burn. She spent 29 days in the hospital.

The oncologists at Penn determined that Gina's leukemia had rapidly progressed and was classified as Biphenotypic acute leukemia. This form is very rare and will require many months of chemo treatment in the hospital with the goal of getting into remission so she can receive a bone marrow transplant. While she is undergoing treatment, her immune system will be severely compromised so she will not be able to return to work. In addition, she will need frequent blood transfusions, platelets, and other medications.

Before Gina was admitted to the hospital, she and her husband both worked full-time. They paid their bills on time and worked together to build a stable financial future. But without Gina's regular paycheck and with Tom needing to take time off from work to care for her, they are facing a financial disaster. Co-pays for hospitalizations and cancer medications are extremely expensive and were totally unexpected. Additionally, the costs of gas, tolls and parking while Gina is in the hospital add up significantly. They need help to keep afloat.

Gina maintains a positive attitude and good sense of humor through her treatments. She is strong and does not have any other health conditions that could impact her successful treatment. She is highly motivated to be well as the "Mother of the Bride" at her daughter's wedding in October.

We humbly ask for your support to help Gina and her family with these exorbitant medical expenses by donating whatever you can. Your giving will help Gina receive these life-saving treatments and medications and relieve the stress of the additional financial burden.

We greatly appreciate your generosity!

Love & Blessings,
